Leading biologics and vaccines capabilitiesAfter our successful acquisition of Medimmune, 25% of our portfolio is now in biologics.

The term biotechnology was created in 1919 by Karl Ereky. Biotechnology refers to "all lines of work by which products are produced from raw materials with the aid of living things."

MedImmune & vaccine research

The acquisition of MedImmune and the consolidation of AstraZeneca's biologics capabilities into one business has created one of the world's largest biologics pipelines. AstraZeneca is an industry leader in biotechnology amongst other large pharmaceutical companies.

By playing an active role in the utilization and development of biologics, we can attack diseases that were not amenable to traditional small-molecule approaches.

To learn more about our biologics and vaccines research/capabilities, visit MedImmune (www.medimmune.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of AstraZeneca.
