  • Healthy Delawareans Today & Tomorrow

Approximately 101,000 Delawareans are without health insurance.  AstraZeneca and more than 20 organizations statewide are making strides to connect the uninsured with available healthcare services.

Lack of healthcare coverage limits access to healthcare – with serious consequences for patient health.  Almost 13% of Delaware’s population is uninsured and struggles to find access to the care and services they need.

AstraZeneca has a 30-year history of helping the underinsured and the uninsured access our medicines. In our home state of Delaware, we’re taking a step beyond these programs by providing financial support and employee volunteers to connect the uninsured with services that can help them lead healthier lives.

In 2007, AstraZeneca launched Healthy Delawareans Today & Tomorrow, a coalition of organizations from the public and private sectors that share a commitment to helping people without health insurance access the care they need.

Since its launch in April 2007, the coalition has linked more than 13,000 uninsured Delawareans to free and low-cost healthcare services, medication assistance programs, and other support services (e.g., translation, transportation, etc.).

Leading the way

As the leading founder of this initiative, AstraZeneca has assisted with the following:

  • Healthy Delawareans Today and Tomorrow - Healthcare Resource Guide This comprehensive resource is aimed at helping uninsured Delawareans find appropriate medical care, gain access to prescription assistance programs, and get transportation to and from medical appointments.  Download the Healthy Delawareans Today & Tomorrow brochure online:  In English /  En Español
  • Delaware Helpline With AstraZeneca’s support, employees of the toll-free Delaware Helpline were trained specifically to respond to calls from the uninsured.  The Delaware Helpline, at 1-800-464-H-E-L-P (4357), is a one-stop guide for identifying available resources for Delawareans in need.
  • AZ Healthcare Heroes As individuals or teams, hundreds of AstraZeneca employee volunteers called “AZ Healthcare Heroes” give of their time in various ways at local healthcare facilities.  This is an important expression of our personal commitment to delivering on the company’s mission of helping to improve patient health.
  • Financial Support Since 2007, AstraZeneca has committed more than $1.2 million across Delaware, including support for “navigators” at community health centers who will work as case managers to help the uninsured access healthcare facilities and services.
  • Delaware Cover the Uninsured Month In April 2009, AstraZeneca, Governor Jack Markell, United Way, the Healthy Delawareans Today & Tomorrow coalition, and other partners launched the state's second "Cover the Uninsured Month." Click here to read the press release.
