Rewarding Work Environment

100 Best Companies for Working Mothers, Working Mother Magazine, 2009
AstraZeneca was recognized for the eighth consecutive year from among hundreds of companies for providing a supportive and inclusive workplace environment. This award acknowledges the company’s commitment to family-friendly policies that support employee retention, employee engagement, and career advancement. This year, the company was recognized specifically for its best practices in parental leave and training and development.

Best Employer for Healthy Lifestyles, National Business Group on Health, 2009
AstraZeneca was one of 63 employers recognized for innovative programs promoting a healthy workplace and for helping employees and their families make better choices about their own health and well-being.  AstraZeneca received a Gold Award for creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees who have made a commitment to long-term behavior changes.

Employer Support Freedom Award, US Department of Defense, 2009
AstraZeneca has received the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, which is the U.S. Government’s highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. The award reaffirms AstraZeneca’s investment in benefits designed to ease burdens on employees in military service.  It also reflects the efforts of the company’s Military Support Employee Network Group that sponsors events, fundraisers and other volunteer activities to support service men and women. The U.S. Department of Defense selected 15 organizations to receive the honors from more than 3,200 total applications.

50 Best Companies, Conceive Magazine, 2009
For the third consecutive year, AstraZeneca appears on Conceive Magazines list of “50 Best Companies” for fertility-and adoption-friendly work places. Companies are ranked on several financial assistance categories, which include fertility drugs and treatment, adoption packages and paid leave time for primary caregivers. AstraZeneca received recognition by offering employees robust financial assistance for fertility treatment and supportive adoption benefit packages.

Best Places to Work in Industry, The Scientist, 2009
Recently, AstraZeneca was named one of the Best Places to Work in Industry for 2009 by The Scientist. AstraZeneca ranked among the top 10 large companies for the 3rd consecutive year and placed 25th overall. More than 230 life sciences companies were included in this year’s survey. AstraZeneca’s “Most Highest Ranked Factors” were remuneration, benefits and integrity.

Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces in America, Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, 2009
AstraZeneca is among the top 100 organizations that provide exceptional support to employees who adopt. Companies that made the list offer employees robust adoption benefits packages, which include financial assistance and paid leave options. AstraZeneca also made the the list in 2007 and 2008.

Top 50 Companies for Diverse Managers, DiversityMBA Magazine, 2009
AstraZeneca appears on DiversityMBA’s list of Top 50 Companies for the second consecutive year. The only pharmaceutical company in the top 30, AstraZeneca is committed to implementing strategies based on accountability, strong inclusion practices, and ongoing evaluations of retention and recruitment activities. This recognition showcases AstraZeneca’s long-standing commitment to fostering a diverse and unique culture, and providing a great work environment for all professionals, including minorities and women.

CEO Cancer Gold Standard Reaccreditation, CEO Roundtable on Cancer, 2009
AstraZeneca received CEO Gold Standard Reaccreditation by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer for its ongoing promotion of employee cancer-prevention initiatives. In 2005, AstraZeneca was among the first six organizations to receive Gold Standard Accreditation, which recognizes the actions AstraZeneca takes to promote cancer prevention, early cancer detection and access to quality cancer care for all employees and their dependents.

Top 50 Companies, National Association of Female Executives, 2009
The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) has included AstraZeneca on its list of Top 50 Companies for Executive Women, which spotlights corporations whose commendable practices and employment records demonstrate that women matter to the company’s bottom line.  New to the NAFE Top 50 Companies list, AstraZeneca was also included in the top ten companies list and received special recognition for “its deep and broad attention to women in succession plans.”  

Fit-Friendly Company Award, American Heart Association, 2008
The American Heart Association, for the second year in a row, has named AstraZeneca the recipient of its “Fit-Friendly Company” Platinum Award, which recognizes companies that are taking a lead to support corporate wellness initiatives that encourage employees to incorporate exercise into their workday.

Top Employer, Science Magazine, 2008
For the seventh consecutive year, AstraZeneca was named a "Top Employer" in Science magazine's ranking of the world's most respected biopharmaceutical employers.  Companies are rated based on  23 driving characteristics, including financial strength, easy adaptation to change, and a research-driven environment. 

100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE Magazine, 2008
AstraZeneca was the only large pharmaceutical company mentioned on FORTUNE’s “100 Best” list, ranking number 83 and receiving special mention for its on-site wellness programs, fitness center and other amenities—as well as child care. Top 15 Fittest Companies in America, Men’s Fitness Magazine, 2008
AstraZeneca was chosen by Men’s Fitness Magazine as one of the top 15 fittest companies in America. It was selected for providing employees access to modern gym and fitness facilities, cafeterias with menus with health and nutrition in mind, preventative medical care, programs for losing weight and quitting smoking, and rewards for staying in shape.

25 Noteworthy Companies List, DiversityInc, 2006
This list recognizes companies that have made significant strides in several important areas, including human capital, CEO commitment, corporate communications, and supplier diversity. AstraZeneca’s main diversity focus has been on recruitment, including recruiting people with disabilities, and retention. Company-funded and company-sponsored networking groups and work/life balance programs are accredited to AstraZeneca’s ongoing progress.  

Top 50 Employer, CAREERS & the disABLED Magazine, 2006
The readers of CAREERS & the disABLED magazine selected the top companies in the country for which they would most prefer to work or believe are progressive in hiring people with disabilities. This is the 15th anniversary of this award, and this year AstraZeneca ranked 36th in 2006.

Honored AstraZeneca's high standing among minority professionals' impressions of diversity programs at today’s top companies. 

Committee Pro Patria Award, 2005
AstraZeneca received the Committee Pro Patria Award from the Delaware Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. This award recognized AstraZeneca as the employer within Delaware that demonstrates the highest level of support for its employees who serve in the National Guard or Reserve.

Recognized as "Employer of Choice" for Diversity Efforts, Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), 2004

The percentage of female executives at AstraZeneca rose from 13.5% to 21% between 2002 and 2003.

AstraZeneca was recognized as a "Company of Choice" and ranked tenth in a survey conducted by Science magazine to identify biotech companies with the best reputations as employers.

Top 35 Places to Work, Philadelphia Magazine, 2001
Philadelphia Magazine recognized AstraZeneca for its rewarding work environment by naming it one of the "Top 35 Places to Work" in the greater Philadelphia region.

Product of the Year, National Business & Disability Council, 2005
AstraZeneca’s SEROQUEL® (quetiapine fumarate) was named “Product of the Year,” an award given to a company that is responsible for manufacturing and distributing a product that has helped enhance the lives of people with disabilities.

AstraZeneca's pipeline was selected from the top 10 in the industry, as determined by R&D Directions, a leading trade publication.

AstraZeneca was selected as "Pharmaceutical Company of the Year" for its pipeline and R&D programs.

R&D Boston Named Lab of the Year, R&D Magazine, 2001

AstraZeneca and the Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) group were recognized for pursuing a true win-win partnership of CAT’s expertise in monoclonal antibody generation and optimization combined with AstraZeneca’s drug development and global market strength.

AstraZeneca company stock was selected as one of the elite FORTUNE 40, in a FORTUNE “special investors” issue.

AstraZeneca was selected to FORTUNE magazine's 2004 third annual listing of winning stocks.

Honored for Multicultural Marketing Campaign, PRWeek, 2004

The CFA honored CEO David Brennan for his dedication and commitment to the community and for his demonstrated interest in and concern for those who suffer from Crohn’s disease.


Community Support

"The Top Supporter" Certificate of Appreciation, New Castle County Daffodil Days Campaign of the American Cancer Society (ACS), 2005
AstraZeneca received the “The Top Supporter” certificate of appreciation for the 2005 New Castle County Daffodil Days Campaign of the ACS. “Ambassador volunteers,” both employees and retirees, raised a grand total of $36,614.50, with all proceeds going directly to the ACS.

Corporate Image Award, National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), 2005
AstraZeneca received the NBCSL Corporate Image Award for its ongoing work to address health disparities. Over the past three years AstraZeneca has educated more than 100 legislators on key health policy issues impacting the African American community, and is recognized as the exclusive sponsor for the annual NBCSL and National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) Health Disparities Conference.

Celebrate Life Community Award, Crozer Regional Cancer Center, 2005
AstraZeneca was selected for dedication to making a difference in cancer care in the community through the Crozer Regional Cancer Center and other community activities.

Bronze Corporate Sponsor Award, INROADS Program, 2005
Recognized AstraZeneca's continued participation in the INROADS program, the nation’s largest nonprofit source of salaried corporate internships for high-performing African American, Hispanic/Latino American, and Native American Indian college students.

Good Neighbor Award, Waltham Partnership for Youth, 2005
